Scott is a fifth generation Wyomingite and a native of Lander.
He graduated from Lander Valley High School in 1977 and
received a B.S. degree in accounting from the University of
Wyoming in 1982. Shortly after graduating college, Scott was
employed by a local CPA firm where he performed auditing and
income tax work for almost five years. In 1988, Mr. Harnsberger
was appointed as Deputy County Treasurer. In December 1992,
Scott was nominated by the Fremont County Republican Central
Committee to fill the unexpired term of County Treasurer upon
retirement of the Treasurer. He was selected and appointed by
the Fremont County Commissioners. Scott was subsequently
elected to four consecutive four year terms.
Although Mr. Harnsberger is responsible for all functions of the County Treasurer, he spends most of his time managing the County’s $66 million investment portfolio. He has extensive knowledge and experience in investing public funds, formulating public funds investment policy, and creating governmental accounting policy.
Scott lives just outside of Lander with his wife Teddi.
